Why SkillSmith, LLC?

We are an organization dedicated to the idea that our learning disordered students will learn through multi-sensory education.  We are a team. Even the teacher who is relatively new to SkillSmith has received extensive training through SkillSmith, LLC.  We are connected to each other through our shared experiences.

With the proper, highly structured training, students with SLD can become successful in the classroom and elsewhere-- that is, in the mainstream of education and life.  Typically, most schools simply do not have the resources to offer this kind of intensive teaching.  SkillSmith can bridge the gap.  SkillSmith tutors are skilled practitioners of the Orton-Gillingham methods in addition to some other techniques.  We teach a variety of skills and serve students of all ages.

We Believe.

SkillSmith, LLC believes that people with specific language disorders (SLD) can learn and succeed in our increasingly language rich world.  We design and implement sequential, multi-sensory, skill-based training programs to respond to each student's neurological profile.  Our ultimate goal is to foster independence by enabling the student to use strategies to attack language-based tasks.

Many learning issues can be attributed to a specific language disorder (SLD) such as dyslexia.  Why language disorder?  After all, psychologists, teachers and pediatricians have for many years thought of students with special neurological needs as learning disabled.  Others, seeking a more positive approach to these students, have proposed that they be considered to have learning differences.  To SkillSmith, these students are not disabled.  They can learn, but perhaps not optimally in conventional ways and or traditional environments.
